SAFETY TRAINING

Storrs Lab is accessible to trained users within the College of Arts and Architecture. Under circumstances approved by the Lab Director or Manager, users from other departments can be trained to use the facility. These cases must be arranged with advanced coordination. The lab is open daily under the supervision of two full-time staff members and eleven student technicians. Storrs Lab offers four levels of training:

T1 Analog

DIGI

Hours

M-R: 10 - 9

F: 10 - 2

Sa: 12 - 3

Su: 12 - 6

Intended as an introduction to analog lab resources, T1analog training grants use of T1-tagged equipment. To gain this status, you must complete these sessions:

 

Wood Lab: 1-hour training module (in-person)

Metal Lab: 1-hour training module (in-person)

T2 Analog

All modules of T1 must be completed. T2 training is hands-on with a focus on safety. Building upon experience from T1, this training grants additional hours and access to T2-tagged equipment. You must complete these sessions:

Metal Lab: 1-hour training module (in-person)

T2 Advanced

Required for use of expert-tagged equipment, this safety training is for specialized equipment such as lathes, welders, plasma cutters, etc. Training is ideal at a 1-to-1 ratio but groups of up to three people can be accommodated.

Digital Training

Intended as an introduction to digital lab resources, T1 digital training grants the use of T1-tagged equipment. To gain this status, you must complete these sessions:
