Which laser beds work better?

    Blue one and blue two are 60watt beds, blue three is a 100watt bed, and Clifford is 150watts.

What programs can I use to laser cut?

    Rhino, AutoCAD, Illustrator

What colors can I use and what do they mean?

    Red-   Cuts all the way through material

    Blue-  Strikes the material 

    Black- Engraves solid onto material 

 

What materials are available for purchase in the Laser Lab?

    A variety of acrylic, styrene, some basswood, some chipboard options

How big is the CNC Mill?

    The cutting table is 4’x8’

​

What do I have to do to CNC mill a project?

    You have to create a Rhino file with a clean, readable document that will be submitted to the lab for proofing before it can be cut. 

​

How many days before I need a file milled on the CNC should I submit to Alex?

    Immediately contact Alex, time depends on project variables

​

What material can I mill on the CNC?

    Wood, Foam, Aluminum

​

 

  3D PRINT LAB

Procedures of using the 3D Printers:

  1. Create a 3D model with closed surfaces (aka a solid form)

    1. Command 'volume'

  2. Export it from your program (probably Rhino) as an .STL file

  3. Bring that file into the Makerbot software (available as a free download from their website)

  4. Rescale model accordingly in Makerbot

  5. Export to print file

  6. Save to thumbdrive

  7. Insert thumbdrive into machine and go to ‘Print’ on Main Menu

  8. Print from thumb drive

 

What to look for if a 3D print is printing incorrectly:

  1. Extruder not extruding

  2. Crushing model
